چکیده

Radiological Sciences, King’s College, London, U.K. Departments of Radiology and Surgery, University of Minnesota, U.S.A. Philips Medical Systems, Best, the Netherlands. The shape of the brain and the position of anatomical structures can change during neurosurgical procedures. Such changes can be due to to differences between the patient’s position in acquisition and during surgery, reduction in volume due to tissue resection or cyst drainage, changes in blood and extracellular fluid volumes, or loss of cerebrospinal fluid when the skull is opened. The amount of brain shift may be a centimeter or more [1].

Quantifying the intraoperative brain deformation using interventional MR imaging

The increasing use of image guided surgery systems for neurosurgery has lead to considerable recent interest in quantifying brain deformation during neurosurgery, Traditional image guided neurosurgery systems determine the rigid body transformation between pre-operative images and an intraoperative coordinate system (eg.: defined by an optical localiser). These systems can be very accurate, esp...

Non-rigid registration of medical images based on estimation of deformation states.

A unified framework for automatic non-rigid 3D-3D and 3D-2D registration of medical images with static and dynamic deformations is proposed in this paper. The problem of non-rigid image registration is approached as a classical state estimation problem using a generic deformation model for the soft tissue. The registration technique employs a dynamic linear elastic continuum mechanics model of ...

3D-printed Z-frame marker for MRI-guided interventions

The performance of interventional procedures during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance brings multiple advantages compared to other imaging modalities, such as the elimination of ionizing radiation and high quality soft tissue differentiation. Clinicians prefer to use MR-imaging for certain interventional procedures including MRI-guided biopsies [1] and ablations [2]. Real time MR-imagin...

An Mri Coil-mounted Multi-probe Robotic Positioner for Cryoablation

Cryoablation is a percutaneous procedure for treating solid tumors using needle-like instruments. This paper presents an interventional guidance device for faster and more accurate alignment and insertion of multiple probes during cryoablation performed in closed bore magnetic resonance (MR) imaging systems. The device is compact and is intended to be mounted onto a Siemens 110 mm MR loop coil....

Dynamic tracking of a deformable tissue based on 3D-2D MR-US image registration

Real-time registration of pre-operative magnetic resonance (MR) or computed tomography (CT) images with intra-operative Ultrasound (US) images can be a valuable tool in image-guided therapies and interventions. This paper presents an automatic method for dynamically tracking the deformation of a soft tissue based on registering pre-operative three-dimensional (3D) MR images to intra-operative t...
